The U.S. Latino unemployment declined by one percentage point in comparison to May 2014, and economists have remained optimistic about the latest jobs report.
Overall, the U.S. unemployment rate increased from 5.4 percent in April to 5.5 percent for May. According to The New York Times, the latest data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) helped ease the debate about the first quarter’s financial results. During May, 280,000 jobs were created, which was a stronger number than expected, and it may further the Federal Reserve to start raising interest rates.
The Latino unemployment rate, however, declined from April’s 6.9 percent to 6.7 percent in May. As the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) noted, Latino employment gains in leisure and hospitality likely attributed to the unemployment rate decline as 57,000 jobs were added in this sector. SAN FRANCISCO — Change is coming very slowly to LinkedIn which over the past year only slightly increased the number of women and made no headway in increasing the number of underrepresented minorities at the professional networking company.
The Mountain View, Calif., company is still dominated by men, according to work force demographics released Tuesday. Nearly six out of 10 employees at LinkedIn — or 58% — are men, but that is an improvement from 61% last year.
Women also made some progress in the company leadership, holding 30% of those positions, a 5% increase from 2014.
In technical roles, women saw a 1% increase. In non-tech roles, LinkedIn had gender parity with 50% of those positions held by women.
But LinkedIn did not see any improvement in the small percentage of underrepresented minorities. In the U.S., 2% of LinkedIn employees are African American and 4% are Hispanic…

Hispanic-owned businesses in the study posted revenues of $4.8 billion in 2013, an impressive 90 percent increase over 2007 revenues reported in a Census Survey of Business Owners. More robust growth is expected. The study projects that Hispanic-owned businesses could exceed 51,000 in number and add more than $12.8 billion to the Central Texas economy by 2020. Employment & Job News 2014: US Employers Hire 321,000 Employees in November; Latino Unemployment Drops Slightly
U.S. employers hired 321,000 people in November, the latest sign of steady growth and health job gains. The latest job figures mean 2014 is on track to be the strongest year for hiring since 1999, and 10 million jobs were lost during the financial crisis in 2008.
More jobs, 44,000, were added in September and October than had previously been estimated. The Department of Labor said the unemployment rate remained at a six-year low of 5.8 percent.
Economy analysts say job gains will accelerate improvement in the labor market as more industries participate in the recovery. The Labor Department measured a 69.7 percent rate increase in its Diffusion index which measures industry payrolls…

WATSONVILLE, Calif. — When he was 15, an immigration raid at a Japanese flower nursery turned Arturo Flores’ life around. The owners needed a new group of workers to replace the ones removed by immigration officials, and Flores landed a job cutting flowers.
